Hideyoshi's Makishima Embankment
Hideyoshi, the ruler who unified Japan, built this embankment while constructing Fushimi Castle, redirecting a river from its old pond toward the castle town. By tradition, cherry trees once lined the top of the bank—a vanished avenue above a remade waterway.
