Eizan Cable (Cable Yase Station)
叡山ケーブル(えいざんけーぶる)
A funicular opened in December 1925, linking Yase with Mount Hiei. Its vertical rise of 561 meters is the greatest of any cable car in Japan. Cable Yase Station was first called Saitobashi Station. From the foot of the mountain the car climbs the steep grade — a window onto the modern gateway to the Hiei pilgrimage.
