Well of Kanawa (Midnight Curse Legend)

鉄輪の井戸(丑の刻参り伝承)

Central (Rakuchū)|五条松原

A well asleep down a latticed alley off Sakaimachi Street. Legend holds that the betrayed wife of the Noh play Kanawa fell lifeless here after her midnight curse pilgrimages; its water was feared for severing ill-fated bonds. The well is dry now, kept by the small Myobu Inari shrine.
