Kogo-zuka (mound of Kogo no Tsubone)

A mound honoring Kogo no Tsubone, a celebrated koto player beloved of Emperor Takakura. Fearing the wrath of Taira no Kiyomori, she hid in the fields of Saga; found and drawn back to court, she was at last made a nun, as the Tale of the Heike relates. A small mound in Arashiyama, marking favor and misfortune alike.
