Shisen-do guidepost (Ishikawa Jozan)

石川丈山先生旧蹟詩仙堂道標

East (Rakutō)|銀閣寺

A guidepost standing at the foot of Jodo-ji Bridge on the Shirakawa canal. Linked to the early-Edo literatus Ishikawa Jozan-a former Tokugawa retainer who built the Shisen-do villa-it points 'twelve cho north to Shisen-do.' It was raised in 1925 through the bequest of Miyake Yasubei, who left guideposts across Kyoto.
