Shirakawa (home of stonemasons and the Shirakawa-me)

白川(北白川の石工・白川女の里)

East (Rakutō)|北白川

Kitashirakawa, the area along the Shirakawa stream, was a village of stonemasons who quarried fine 'Shirakawa stone.' It is also known as the home of the Shirakawa-me, flower-selling women who walked Kyoto's streets with blossoms balanced on their heads.
