Recorded Joy·Rakunan / Fushimi Inari
Fushimi Inari Taisha (Senbon Torii)
The vermilion gates were not raised by the shrine but donated one by one—by individuals and companies—as a plea that a wish might "pass through," or as thanks that it had, it's said. The cost follows the post's thickness, graded by number. On the back of each post, the donor's name and the year and month are inscribed. What reads as a tunnel is, seen from behind, a ledger of private wishes.
