Hayashi Razan's Kyoto Residence

Born in Kyoto's Shijo district, Hayashi Razan (Doshun), a Confucian scholar, was received by the military ruler Ieyasu in 1605. He went on to serve four successive shoguns, shaping the scholarship and ceremonies of their government from a career that began near this site.
