Kanikakuni, Gion's Beloved Poem
This streamside stone bears a poem by Yoshii Isamu, a poet devoted to Gion, Kyoto's historic entertainment district. Each November, maiko—apprentice entertainers of the district—lay flowers here, turning a private love of place into a continuing tribute.
