Tatsumi Shrine and Gion's Tanuki

Tatsumi Daimyojin, enshrined at the foot of Tatsumi Bridge in Gion Shirakawa. It is said to have been founded to placate a tanuki that bewitched passersby from the bridge; today geiko and maiko pray here to perfect their arts.
