Recorded Joy·Rakuchū / Kyoto Station
Ryukoku's Meiji-Era Omiya Campus
The main hall was completed in 1879, before Western building techniques had taken root in Japan. What looks like a row of stone columns is in fact wood faced with stone—a "pseudo-Western" style, an early Japanese adaptation of Western architectural forms. The main hall, along with the north and south lecture buildings and the gate, is designated an Important Cultural Property. The iron doors of the main gate are said to have been made by the Armstrong company in Britain.
