Ginkaku-ji (Jisho-ji)
No silver foil covers the Kannon Hall known as the "Silver Pavilion." A 2007 scientific analysis by the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties found no trace of silver, suggesting it was never applied rather than worn away. The name itself is not original either: by the temple's account, it was coined in the Edo period as a counterpart to the Golden Pavilion. The conical Kōgetsudai and the raked sand terrace of Ginshadan in the garden are likewise held to be Edo-period work.
