Nabeshima Domain's Kyoto Residence

This site is said to mark the Kyoto residence of the Kashima domain (the Nabeshima family), a sub-domain of the Saga Nabeshima house. Kashima was one of three sub-domains—Kashima, Hasuike, and Ogi—fixed in the time of Nabeshima Katsushige (1580–1657), the first lord of Saga, and held a stipend of about 20,000 koku. Nothing survives of the residence itself; a stone marker alone now notes the spot. It was erected in 1991 by the City of Kyoto and the Kyoto Association of Saga Natives.
