So-jinja

總神社(そうじんじゃ)

North (Rakuhoku)|紫竹

An ancient shrine said to date from the Hakuho era, one of the thirty-eight outer shrines of Kamigamo. The area is held to be the site of Minamoto no Yoshitomo's villa and the 'Tokiwa Forest' where Tokiwa Gozen bore Ushiwakamaru (Yoshitsune); Sugawara no Michizane is also said to have stayed a night here to bid farewell to his aunt before exile, earning it the name 'Kanyado Forest.' In spring, the Yasurai Festival procession calls here on its way to Imamiya Shrine.
