Adashino's 8,000 Stone Buddhas

Adashino received Kyoto's dead from Heian times. In the Meiji era eight thousand scattered stone Buddhas and stone pagodas were gathered to face Amida in the Sai-no-Kawara, the riverbed of Buddhist legend; each August's Sento Kuyo lights them with a thousand flames.
