Site of Yatsuhashi Kengyō dōjō

八橋検校道場の跡

Central (Rakuchū)|四条烏丸

Site of the practice hall of Yatsuhashi Kengyō, father of the modern koto tradition, who rose to the highest rank open to blind musicians and shaped the koto into its present form. The Kyoto sweet "yatsuhashi," folded like a koto, is said to trace back to cakes offered to those visiting his grave (accounts vary).
