Ushiwakamaru's birth-bath well

In a corner of Shichiku, in the city's north, a stone marker about 1.5 meters tall reads "Well of Ushiwakamaru's Birth," and the well beside it still holds water. By tradition it drew the first bath of Ushiwakamaru—the future Minamoto no Yoshitsune—born in 1159. Nearby stand a mound said to hold his afterbirth and Kōnen-ji, linked to his mother Tokiwa Gozen and prayed to for safe childbirth.
